Subcultures a "Small Press Pick"

Rob Kirby at Panel Patter recommends SubCultures: "This often fascinating anthology examines a variety of subcultures, ranging from cosplayers to cryptozoologists, ham radio enthusiasts to home schoolers, and real doll enthusiasts to Reborners. There are 36 different stories here (full disclosure: I contributed a 3-pager), and while not everything works, the batting average is well above average; among the alt-cartoonists featured: Cara Bean, cover artist Box Brown, Jesse Lonergan, Dan Mazur, Hazel Newlevant, Liz Prince, and Daryl Seitchik. Kudos to editor Whit Taylor for a killer theme in the first place; I learned a lot reading this"

SubCultures reviewed

Reporting on subculture with empathy and understanding

"...this year my favorite discovery wasn’t just one artist, but an entire collection of them. I bought SubCultures Comics Anthology after talking to its editor, Whit Taylor. Contributors shared 37 different stories about fan communities that edge on the bizarre, from Steampunks to cryptozoologists to Real Doll connoisseurs...." (Read the full review)

Yes indeed! At MICE this weekend, SubCultures will have its New England premiere. Editor Whit Taylor and publisher Dan Mazur will be on hand... So you're likely to see a scene like this:

Also there will be Alexander Danner, co-author of Comics: a Global History, 1968 to the Present (which will be available as well).  Right there at table D-for-Doucet 11!

Next table over will be the Boston Comics Roundtable, where the new Hellbound V: the End from Riverbird Press will make its anywhere debut!
